Eight Reasons To Travel To Paris

Eight Reasons To Travel To Paris

Alright then, besides the various packages listed on this website, highlighting how adventurious and memorable the wildlife safaris to Africa can be, here is another list of reasons to go to Paris and visit the wonderful sites of Paris.

Ahh… the city of lights – the city of love.  There is nothing quite like Paris in the springtime!  Well, have you had enough of my cheesy clichés?  Well, I truly believe there is no other city quite like it and I recommend that everyone visit at least once in his or her life.

A friend and her husband are busy planning their next trip to Paris so I thought I did re-write and post some top huit (huit is French for ’8′) reasons for one to consider on their own trip to Paris during spring or summer.

  1. Romance – There really is no better city to bring back that sparkle of romance.  Paris has a certain romance about it and it surrounds you as you visit every corner of the city.  There are many romantic pursuits like a trip up the Eiffel Tower, indulging in a French kiss on a bridge overlooking the Seine River and enjoying a class of great French wine in a smoky jazz club.
  2. Art – I did go to Paris anytime just to have another chance to visit the Louvre Museum.  From the Mona Lisa to Venus de Milo, it is jam packed with some of the world’s most famous works of art.
  3. Cuisine – A top reason to travel Paris is to enjoy some of the most amazing food and drink.  From a freshTravel to Paris France croissant and cheese for breakfast or a tasty baguette sandwiches from the boulangeries to five star cuisines in the evening, the tastes of Paris are second to none. Everything is simply fresh and you can’t beat a wonderful glass of French red to go with it!
  4. Cafés – My husband and I thoroughly enjoy finding an outside table at a busy café and passing our time people watching while enjoying a tasty café au lait.
  5. Shopping – I’d be remiss if I didn’t include shopping in my list of reasons to visit Paris.  While many persons might not be able to afford haute couture, one can really enjoy window shopping at the designer shops along the Champs d’elysse.  Anyone can dream – right?!
  6. Paris Plage – If you are visiting in the summer, be sure to include a trip to Paris Plage where the city turns the banks of the Seine River into a French Polynesian beach resplendent with palm trees, umbrellas and lounge chairs!  You can enjoy water sports and hot tubs and in the evening open air dances and indie bands.  Loads of fun!
  7. Open air entertainment – Another great reason to visit in the summer are the free concerts featured every weekend at Parc Floral.  Expect to see and hear a wide variety of music!  We’ve also enjoyed Shakespeare in the outdoor Theatre de Verdure.
  8. Landmarks – You’ll really want to visit some of the most famous Paris landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, and Pompidou Centre during your first visit to Paris.

There you have it!  I really hope you will have the opportunity to travel Paris in the next few months.  It will be a trip of a lifetime and will fill you with beautiful memories!

The Spice Islands

About Zanzibar

Come turn your face to the Sun!

Zanzibar, (also referred to as Zangi Bar – to mean, Rust-coast or Rust-land) is an Essque Hotel in Zanzibararchipelago with many small islands and islets in the Indian Ocean, and between 25 kilometres – 50 kilometres from the coast of the mainland – Tanzania. The Zanzibar archipelago comprises of two large islands – Pemba and Unguja (also referred to as Zanzibar), and various smaller islands. If on a Zanzibar holiday, the most popular island for holiday makers is Prison Island (Changu Island) which is closer to Stone Town (Zanzibar city – the capital of Zanzibar). According to the history of Zanzibar, before the British built a jail on Prison Island, the Arabs had used the island to confine unruly slaves. Besides Prison Island, Zanzibar safari lovers can take short trips to Chumbe islet, Bawe islet or Chapwani islets which are also in close proximity to Stone Town.

The archipelago is neighboured by other island countries such as the Seychelles Islands in the east, Réunion and Mauritius in the south-east and to the south is Mayotte and Comoros.

Discovered and used by the Persian traders over 50,000 years ago, Zanzibar Islands became a base and suitable trading point (especially slaves and spices, given the fact that as many as 50,000 slaves were annually passing through Zanzibar’s slave markets, by the mid 19th century) for Portuguese and Arab traders on journeys between Eastern Africa, the Middle East, and India. These traders established Zanzibar City (Stone Town) as the main base while Unguja Islands (which is actually larger than Stone Town) was used as a defensible harbour, built mosques and the first Zoroastrian fire temples in the Southern hemisphere, and established garrisons on the islands.

In 1890, the islands were established as a British protectorate that later became an independent constitutional sultanate monarchy in December 1963. The Sultan of Zanzibar controlled Zanj, which was a large part of the East African coast and it included lands such as Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, and many trading routes that continued much deeper into the inland – like the Congo River route to Kindu. The January 1964 bloody uprising in Zanzibar led to the creation of the Republic of Zanzibar and Pemba, and in April 1964, this republic joined the mainland former colony of Tanganyika thereby forming the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, that later in October 1964 renamed as Tanzania, of which Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region.

Just as in Tanzania (for any traveller that has been on a Tanzania safari or Tanzania trip), Swahili (or Kiswahili, by the local population) is the main language used by the people of Zanzibar, but is also a language extensively spoken in the rest of East Africa although most East Africans believe that the Swahili spoken in Zanzibar is in its purest form because Zanzibar is considered the birth place of Swahili.

Planning to travel on a Zanzibar holiday or tour to Zanzibar during summer? Well, in your Zanzibar holiday vacation, try to integrate the ‘Festival of the Dhow Countries’, or referred to as the ‘Zanzibar International Film Festival‘, the most famous annual event on the islands that takes place during July and showcases Taarab – Zanzibar’s favourite music, and the best of Swahili Coast arts.
